Green top milk may be banned
Article Abstract:
The UK government is expected to impose a limit on the daily intake of Vitamin B6 to 10 milligrams in a move which will upset health food devotees who say that the product can deal with pre-menstrual tension (PMT) and depression in women. The ban will apply to multi-doses of the vitamin and could be extended to include Vitamin C and other vitamin supplements. Meanwhile, MPs are also considering banning green top unpasteurised milk after government scientists found that certain samples were found to contain cattle faeces, salmonella and the fatal e.coli 0157 virus. Green top milk sales are at present limited milk roundsmen and farm shops in England and Wales and there are fears that outlawing it outright will have a severe impact on almost 600 small farmers.

Heart inquiry to involve 1,000 children
Article Abstract:
The UK government's health secretary, Frank Dobson, has announced that a public inquiry will be held into the child heart surgery crisis centred at the Bristol Royal Infirmary in which 29 children died. Three doctors, who performed the surgery, have already been struck off the medical register for ignoring the high death rate. While the public inquiry has been welcomed, the scale of the exercise is seen as daunting. The inquiry will hear evidence on cases of over 1,000 children who received treatment at the hospital between 1984 and 1995. Many of these operations were successful. The scale of the task can be judged by the General Medical Council's inquiry which took eight months and considered the cases of only 53 children.
