Firms that opt-out of pension contributions

Article Abstract:

New regulations are likely to deter many UK companies from continuing to use a money-purchase pension scheme which aims to build up an alternative pension to the state earnings-related pension scheme. This type of scheme appears generous to employees, but in fact simply allow the employer to collect National Insurance rebates without adding any extra contributions to increase the size of the fund. New regulations will make it more efficient to convert these company schemes into group personal pension plans.

Closed networks prove popular with bigger firms

Article Abstract:

Orange, Cellnet and Vodafone are now offering digital networks which can be used as a reliable way of transmitting business data. These services will build on the less widely known technology, such as national radio networks National Band Three and RAM Mobile Data, which is already being used by many UK businesses to send business-to-business data. In the future, it will be possible to establish geographically-dispersed virtual companies which use only mobile communication to link their employees.
