Flagship blown by TV trade winds
Article Abstract:
Sir Denis Forman and Sidney Berstein established Granada Television in 1955 with the philosophy of 'making good television for the widest possible audience without compromising standards.' At the 1980 franchise renewal Granada stated its belief that creativity was more important than popularity. Its current affairs programme 'World in Action' was the first to use investigative journalism. The 1990 Broadcasting Act emphasised economic considerations. Executive chairman David Plowright resigned in Feb 1992 as he disapproved of businessmen having more power in television than creative people.

So you thought you knew the Thames ...
Article Abstract:
Considerable efforts have been made over recent years to make the Thames more attractive to visitors, and it is now possible to walk along the south bank almost the whole way from Tower Bridge to beyond Lambeth Bridge on a special riverside path. From this path, there are spectacular views of some of London's most attractive buildings, such as Smirke's 1825 Custom House, a 17th century house at Cardinal's Wharf and Lambeth Palace.
