Free-trade supporters must speak freely
Article Abstract:
It is widely believed that the world trading system exploits the poor to the benefit of the rich and powerful. This view is incorrect, but it remains largely unchallenged. It is now time for supporters of free trade and globalization to campaign more effectively, making people aware that the creation of the World Trade Organisation has in fact shifted the balance of the global trading system towards developing countries. There is now a trading system based on rules, an approach which benefits the weaker countries.

Financial crisis hampers effort to cut world poverty
Article Abstract:
It will become increasingly hard for the international community to achieve aims such as eliminating poverty and infant mortality, according to a report from the World Bank. There are still many significant inequalities between rich and poor countries, and there is also extreme income inequality in many developing and emerging countries. Some new inequalities are arising from access to new technologies such as the Internet.
