Medical practitioner Gregory Hemingway, the youngest son of Ernest Hemingway, was born in Kansas City, MO, in 1931. He studied medicine at UCLA and eventually finished medical school at the University of Miami after spending time hunting in Africa and serving in the army.

Soldier and activist Chenjerai Hunzvi claimed to have joined the liberation struggle in Zimbabwe at the age of 16. He studied medicine in Poland during the late 1970s, and returned to Zimbabwe to work at Harare Central Hospital.

Medical practitioner Len Crome was born in Dvinsk, Latvia, in 1909. He studied medicine at Edinburgh University, Scotland, and later joined the International Brigades. He trained as a pathologist after the second world war.
