'I thought that I was being cremated alive.'

Article Abstract:

Derek Wright Hutchinson, who had a hypothalamotomy in 1973 after suffering from depression, feels that he was treated extremely badly by those who decided that he should have this operation. He has made seven suicide attempts since the operation, and believes that he would not be alive today if it were not for the care of his wife, Carol. She feels that she would have considered not marrying him if she had known what life with him would be like. However, she emphasizes that she has not regretted marrying him because she loves him.

Lessons in love

Article Abstract:

There has been considerable publicity in the UK surrounding relationships between teachers and pupils. Male teachers sometimes cannot resist the attentions of admiring female pupils, while these pupils regard attracting a teacher's attention as a way of becoming superior to their friends. A survey indicates that one school leaver in 20 has had a sexual relationship with a teacher, but the National Union of Teachers believes that such relationships are actually quite rare.
