The last thing the IRA will do is give up its weapons

Article Abstract:

Decommissioning of IRA weapons can only ever be a symbolic exercise, as it is not possible to know exactly how many weapons the IRA owns. The IRA would be highly unlikely to agree to surrendering all its weapons.

Gunmen have been allowed to dicate the terms of peace

Article Abstract:

British Northern Ireland secretary, Mo Mowlam is a politician who has long sought peace in Northern Ireland. She has announced that the ceasefire of the Irish Republican Army (IRA) is still holding. The IRA has not denied murdering Charles Bennett, but has said that this killing does not mean that the ceasefire has ended. The Conservative Party was once actively involved in seeking peace in Northern Ireland, but has since become less interested. Mo Mowlam deserves admiration, but the gunmen have dictated peace terms in Northern Ireland.
