New UN court carries the torch from Nuremberg

Article Abstract:

It has taken several years to reach the stage of finalizing a treaty creating a permanent International Criminal Court under the aegis of the United Nations. Those involved in creating this body hope that it will prove to be an effective independent means to deal with those responsible for genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity. However, there are still considerable political differences about the court, and human rights groups accept that some compromises will have to be made if it is to become a reality.

The day the Land of the Free lost its innocence

Article Abstract:

The terrorist bomb attack in Oklahoma City in Apr 1995, which killed 169 people, has largely been forgotten by the media as other events have followed. However, it was an extremely significant event, making ordinary Americans realise that they were no longer immune to terrorism. There was strong community spirit in the immediate aftermath of the attack, but there was also a negative side, with people being too quick to apportion blame.
