Passing the muck

Article Abstract:

The government has released its draft guidance on contaminated land, requiring authorities to inspect their areas for contamination, identify sites and formulate clean up strategies and draw up a register of sites where clean up is needed. The scope of the definition of contaminated land has narrowed and there is concern that lower levels of contamination could continue to pollute the enviornment. The LAAs are proposing changes to the definition. There is also concern that the Supplementary Credit Approval funding will not be sufficient to to implement the guidance.

No sex please, we're Brethren

Article Abstract:

Teaching children from the Plymouth Brethren can prove difficult, though the children are well-behaved. They are not permitted to read certain passages that are important in the examination syllabus, and are not encouraged to have opinions of their own, so discussing works is not a fruitful activity. They also take a traditional view of gender roles so are unable to see the point of analysing advertisements in terms of different perceptions of these roles. They also find analysis of the media to be difficult since they were not exposed to it.
