Old flame, new fire

Article Abstract:

Centrica, the trading company formed when British Gas was split up in 1997, faced significant difficulties, especially because British Gas had a very poor reputation. However, Centrica's fortunes have actually improved considerably, and it has now reported its first profit. Its share of the domestic market has declined to 80%, but it is now gaining more customers than it is losing. It is now drawing up expansion plans, including the purchase of the RAC's motoring services division and a consortium bid for the Drax power station.

Rover bets the company on the new, all-British 75 model

Article Abstract:

Extensive publicity will surrounding the launch of the Rover 75, a retro-style model strongly based on Rovers of the past. This car will be critical to Rover's future. In particular, it will be vital for Rover to address the quality problems that have been associated with previous models. Some observers feel that the fact that Rover has decided not to introduce the basic model in the 75 range until the end of 1999 may be an indication of difficulties at its production line in Cowley, England.
