Pitiless corruption and national shame
Article Abstract:
The recent collapse of a department store in Seoul, South Korea, has highlighted certain aspects of the western world's attitude towards South Korea. The disaster has been attributed to South Korea being too hasty to industrialise, thus putting up buildings of a very low standard. However, this is a very misguided view, as South Korean engineering is in fact of international standards. In fact, the main problem is corruption, which reinforces the west's view that corruption is rife in the Middle East.

Platitudes fly as Kemp bottles out
Article Abstract:
The recent debate between Republican vice-presidential candidate Jack Kemp and existing vice-president Al Gore contained very little direct conflict. It covered issues including economic policy, abortion, affirmative action and foreign policy, but was characterised by politeness and restraint. Observers felt that the debate went slightly in favour of Al Gore, with Jack Kemp appearing uncomfortable on some issues.
