Article Abstract:

Travel-Care is a charity based at Gatwick Airport, UK, financed by Gatwick Airport Ltd., the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, British Airways and appreciative travellers, which helps travellers in distress. The service is run by three staff and a dozen volunteers, mainly ex-employees at the airport. Ruth Lotinga, an ex-air hostess with British Airways, who works for TravelCare, has many tales to tell of travellers in trouble, including couples who have had an argument, people who have run out of cash, and a woman who waited for two days expecting God to help her find a ticket.

A case for mercy

Article Abstract:

Aids is being increasingly used as a mitigating factor in court, according to research undertaken by the UK's Institute of Advanced Legal Studies. People with HIV who appear in criminal courts could find that their condition works in their favour, in contrast with the way in which they are treated in other parts of the legal system. However, the research has also highlighted negligence cases where the plaintiff's HIV status has been a negative factor.
