Praise Be! It's Thora Hird

Article Abstract:

Actress Thora Hird believes that many of the characters she has played have been derived from real people she met while working in her late teens as a cashier at the Lancaster and District Co-op in her home town of Morecombe, England. In recent years, she has particularly enjoyed playing parts written by Victoria Wood and Alan Bennett. She greatly enjoys talking about life in Morecombe in the 1920s and 1930s, and can recall events from that era with great clarity, even though she is now 87.
