Prisoner of time shrugs off his seven-year hitch
Article Abstract:
Spending seven years as a hostage will inevitably permanently change a person, according to former Associated Press bureau chief Terry Anderson, who was the longest-held hostage in Lebanon. He has recently returned to Beirut, where he is filming a documentary. He believes that his main task now is to take the things which have happened to him and use them positively. He will meet Hizbollah leaders, but does not plan to confront them.

Scarred by the savage lash of Islamic justice
Article Abstract:
It is very common in the Arab Gulf states for girls and women to receive very harsh punishments. These can include floggings, often carried out in cases where women have been raped by their employers. It is common for foreign female servants to be lashed before being deported with no money at all. There have been reports of foreign women being arrested on false charges by the religious police and then sexually molested.

Settlers' roads carve up PLO domain
Article Abstract:
A number of roads have been built across the West Bank to allow Jewish settlers on confiscated Arab land to drive to Jerusalem without making contact with Palestinians. These are dividing up Yasser Arafat's 'Palestine,' leaving residents there fearing that they will be left only with cantons. Some believe that Arafat only seeks power, and that he is therefore prepared to cooperate with the Israelis.
