Public-sector managers voice reservations about Labour

Article Abstract:

Leading public sector managers have mixed views about likely developments under a future Labour government in the UK. Social services directors, for example, expect that a Labour government would not bring an end to the severe financial pressures they face, but are generally enthusiastic about a Labour government. Housing directors believe that a Labour government would undertake the phased release of accumulated receipts from the sale of council houses, thus allowing new investment in housing.

Spot the incompetent doctor

Article Abstract:

Adverse publicity surrounding the actions of some doctors has led the General Medical Council (GMC) to undertake work on developing a new procedure to allow incompetent doctors to be dealt with correctly. The government has also responded, and its working party is to publish its report soon. It is likely that doctors will be placed under a contractual obligation to report colleagues whose work they feel is incompetent.

First, spot your Labour candidate

Article Abstract:

The local election campaign in Corby, UK, has become entangled in considerable controversy. The town's Labour party has become the target of allegations of corruption, showing that this is not only a problem at national level or a problem which affects only the Conservative party. The party has been torn apart, and its future after 16 years in power is now in doubt.
