Future of Russia's youth goes up in smoke
Article Abstract:
Russians smoke 250 billion cigarettes a year, with smoking being extremely prevalent among young people. Western tobacco companies have played a role in boosting smoking levels in Russia, seeking new markets as trading conditions in the West become more difficult. There is widespread social tolerance of smoking in Russia, and the country has no strong anti-tobacco lobby. This is allowing tobacco manufacturers to openly target young people in their promotional work.
