Thought for the day: dispense with bishops

Article Abstract:

The recent controversy over Cardinal Hume's pronouncements on the Church's views on same-sex sex highlight the problems which arise when the media persists in obtaining the Church's opinion on modern moral issues. It is time to stop pretending that the Church is a vital part of modern life. This would undoubtedly cause much relief to Church representatives who are often placed in embarrassing situations when asked to express an opinion on a moral matter.

Old, faded - but no, vicar, not throwaway

Article Abstract:

The recent publicity surrounding plans to replace a stained glass window in Sherbourne Abbey thought to be by Augustus Pugin has highlighted the often unusual attitude of the church towards historical artefacts. There have been a number of cases of churches disposing of items of great historical or financial value in a very arbitrary way. It is now time to establish a system which will ensure that such incidents cannot happen in the future.

You must add a pinch of Maldon salt

Article Abstract:

Italian cuisine seems to have become extremely complicated over recent years. It uses the most basic ingredients, but the so-called experts have become extremely selective about the quality of these ingredients. They will use only the freshest eggs, for example, while oilive oil must be of best extra virgin quality. Often, new views on Italian cuisine differ considerably from what is actually cooked in ordinary Italian households.
