Singing that old tax-cutting tune

Article Abstract:

The Conservative party has made many promises about spending cuts in the past, but has not gone as far as implementing any really effective cuts. This may have to change now that its majority has fallen to a dangerously low level. It is looking increasingly likely that tax cuts will have to be made as the Conservative party seeks to boost its popularity in the run-up to the next general election. It will also have to make real spending cuts if it is not to become the party of opposition.

The guns are waiting for Sir Richard

Article Abstract:

The forthcoming lecture by Sir Richard Scott on 'Fairness in government inquiries' will attract considerable attention, as he is currently the chairman of the uncompleted inquiry into the arms-to-Iraq affair. It reflects the growing conflict between him and those who are nervously awaiting the outcome of the inquiry. The conclusions of the inquiry will have great political significance, and may even finally demolish the authority of John Major's government.
