Six months on, why am I kept waiting to conceive my dead husband's baby?

Article Abstract:

Diane Blood is going through a very lengthy process before she can even begin the fertility treatment which could allow her to conceive a child using sperm taking from her husband before his death. She has gained permission from the UK Court of Appeal to seek fertility treatment abroad, and must now undergo the counselling process required by the clinic at the Free University of Brussels, Belgium. The UK's Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority had ruled that the sperm could not be used because it had been removed without her husband's written consent.

How one cancer doctor's errors have put 1,000 women at risk

Article Abstract:

The revelation that women at serious risk of cervical cancer who attended the colposcopy service run by Graham Barker, a senior doctor at St George's hospital in Tooting, London, England, may not have received appropriate treatment will inevitably serve to renew concerns about standards in the National Health Service. Barker was suspended in early 1998, and patient records are now being reviewed. The hospital points out that no national guidelines were issued for colposcopy until Jan 1996.
