Strategies for managing osteoarthritis
Article Abstract:
The oldest and most commonly known form of arthritis is the degenerative joint disease or osteoarthritis (OA) or osteoarthrosis. OA can be classified in two categories: primary or idiopathic which is associated with genetic factors and secondary OA which is due to joint injuries. Among the symptoms of OA are pain, joint manifestations and inflammation. Management options include pharmacologic agents such as NSAIDS, intra-articular hyaluronan and topical analgesics and nonpharmacologic therapies such as exercise, hot or cold compresses and lifestyle changes.

Multidisciplinary approach favored in treating rheumatoid arthritis
Article Abstract:
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) affects over 2.1 million Americans and leads to total direct and indirect costs of more than $14 billion each year. The disease is characterized by extensive joint destruction and extra-articular manifestation. Its etiology remains a focus of debates although a genetic predisposition towards susceptibility to disease triggers has been determined. The treatment of RA and the role of pharmacists are discussed.
