Mr Blair should heed the warning and cancel his euro referendum

Article Abstract:

The UK Conservative party would be wrong to regard its strong performance in the elections to the European Parliament as an indication that the New Labour Project is about to collapse. Prime Minister Tony Blair remains extremely popular. However, he was misguided in believing that his popularity would overcome concerns about the euro and about the way in which the European Union operates. The European Parliament elections must serve as warning to the Labour party against falling into the trap of believing the mythology of being invincible.

The businessmen who jump on the Blair bandwagon do him no favours

Article Abstract:

It has become common in the UK for prominent people to shift their political loyalties in order to align themselves with the most successful party at any particular time. The government does not seem to be aware of the possible long-term repercussions of its overlooking of the importance of impartiality. The most serious repercussions will be seen in the defence of strong public services and the pursuit of the public good. Those who belong to the centre-left now seem unwilling to defend the principle of non-aligned public good when a sensitive case arises.
