Little is known about the activities of foreigners fighting for the Taliban in Afghanistan. Many former Taliban are switching allegiance to the Northern Alliance, but the foreign volunteers continue to stand firm in places including Kunduz.

The massacre of up to 400 Taliban prisoners of war being held at the fortress of Qalai Janghi near Mazar-i-Sharif, Afghanistan, is discussed. A key element in the disaster is the incompetence of Northern Alliance soldiers, who failed to ensure that the prisoners were not carrying weapons.
