The corporatisation of childhood
Article Abstract:
Pokemon, which is based on two Game Boy computer games but also includes a range of other toys, such as pocket monsters and trading-cards, has been so successful in capturing the imagination of many children because it unites all the activities that particularly appeal to children. Indeed, the Pokemon phenomenon can be seen as the logical conclusion of a process in which children have been increasingly manipulated by free markets. Pokemon-related activities are not particularly violent in themselves, but it can be argued that the aggressive targeting of childish enjoyment is violent.

Article Abstract:
The UK Labour party has failed to fulfill its commitments to the Liberal Democrats in some areas, according to Jackie Ballard, the only woman candidate for the leadership of the Liberal Democrats. She believes that the coalition between the Labour party and the Liberal Democrats has stalled. She feels that the Labour party has not abandoned its approach of viewing people as belonging to groups or classes and seeking to control these groups from the centre.
