The early promise of late starters
Article Abstract:
Most writers, painters and composers improve with age. Artists who become famous late in life such as UK writer/director Margaret Tait and UK composer Minna Keal have spent their life developing their technique. Tait spent a year studying at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematographia in Rome. She has been working on short films since 1951. Keal gave up her musical studies in 1929 when her father died and her family could no longer finance her. She did not compose for 46 years until she became a pensioner and found that she had more time and a need extra money.

Article Abstract:
Kevin Jackson created the children's television puppet show 'Thunderbirds' but sold his rights to it to Sir Lew Grade in the 1960s. The show was repeated by the BBC in 1991 and received a massive following: over 90,000 viewers sent in for the details of making a replica of Tracy Islands featured as the HQ of International Rescue. Jackson directs advertisements using 'Thunderbirds,' supervises a cartoon series 'GFI' at the Gerry Anderson Studios, Moscow, Russia and is developing a project 'Space Police' with the BBC.

The word made flesh, fowl and fricassee
Article Abstract:
Some observers feel that descriptions of food have no place in serious literature. However, descriptions of food certainly play a role in making novels popular. Reading about eating is usually a very early literary pleasure, and food holds a prominent position in children's literature. In adults' literature, even writers now regarded as being of very high quality, such as Thackeray, give food a high profile.
