The kings and queens of England (and other mafiosi)

Article Abstract:

The Tate Gallery is currently staging an exhibition entitled 'Dynasties: Painting in Tudor and Jacobean England 1530-1630.' This includes work by some English painters, such as Sir Nathaniel Bacon and William Larkin, but focuses more on the work of foreign painters, including Van Dyck and Holbein. Paintings of Queen Elizabeth I fill an entire room, reflecting the fact that she used paintings as a propaganda tool.
