The man who could make you go macrobiotic

Article Abstract:

Craig Sams, 47, founder of Whole Earth Foods, has invented Wake Cup, a hot, stimulating drink made from roast grains and Brazilian guarana, which maintains its boost longer than coffee. Mr Sams graduated from the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania and established London's first macrobiotic restaurant in 1967 followed by Ceres, a wholemeal bakery. Guarana, the soapberry plant seed, has three times as much caffeine as coffee and follows a different metabolic route so takes longer to absorb and does not produce secondary depression.

Silver palate, golden touch

Article Abstract:

Sheila Lukins was originally a graphic designer but was asked to prepare a dinner for a friend and then founded The Other Woman Catering Company to cook for single men. After publicity the idea took off very well. This led to a partnership with Julee Rosso in opening a shop where people could come in and order a whole dinner. This was the Silver Palate in Manhattan. This in turn led to the Silver Palate Cookbook and two other cookery books, three best sellers. Over 5.3 million copies have been sold.

A small heresy for Lent: avoid cod, eat beef

Article Abstract:

Consumers are often overwhelmed with advice about what they should or should not eat, either for ethical or health reasons. The best approach is to eat any foods, as long as they are purchased from stores where great attention is paid to what is sold and where it comes from. It is advisable for ethical reasons to avoid cod, margarine, bottled water, supermarkets, imported lagers and over-packaged goods .
