The priest Rome can't embrace

Article Abstract:

The future of the church in the Czech Republic was very uncertain following the collapse of the Prague Spring of 1968, according to Ludmilla Javarova, the Catholic Church's first woman priest in modern times. This is why bishop Felix Davidek, who ordained her, looked for new ways to keep the church alive as it faced persecution. He was keen to ordain married men and women, who would not be suspected by the authorities of being priests. At present, she is not acknowledged by the Vatican as a priest, but she hopes that this situation may eventually change.

For whom the Angelus bell tolls

Article Abstract:

The Catholic bishops of England and Wales discuss allowing complete Anglican parishes to join the Roman Catholic church, complete with their church buildings. Individuals have transferred to Roman Catholicism since the Church of England voted to allow women priests, but some disaffected Anglicans would prefer moderation in Catholic rules. A former Anglican church might allow a married priest, a reform sought by many Roman Catholics. However, most Catholics believe the rules should be the same for all.

Changing faiths: a question of politics or belief?

Article Abstract:

Ordinary and well-known people who are Roman Catholic give their opinions of Anglicans who wish to convert because of the Church of England's decision to appoint women priests. Some liberal Catholics would prefer the acceptance of married and women priests in the Roman Catholic Church. While welcoming converting Anglicans, Catholics hope they will adjust. Breaking down barriers is considered advantageous, but a separate English Catholic Church would be divisive.
