The world awaits the forbidden fruit
Article Abstract:
Export is newly available for Rustenberg wines from the Cape Dutch area of Stellenbosch, Cape Town, South Africa, which were famous in 1842 and have been produced since 1692. The South African wine industry has been hampered by the Ko-operatieve Wijnbouwers Vereniging van Zuid-Afrika (KWV) and the political situation. New wine styles are being created in 1992, blending grapes and growing in cooler areas. The Stellenbosch Farmers Winery (SFW), the Distillers Corporation and KWV are the three biggest wine companies.

A powerful king with a bad reputation in Britain
Article Abstract:
Nebbiolo grapes, which produce the prestigious barolo and barbaresco wines, grow in the Langhe hill area near Alba, Piedmont, Italy. They had excellent vintage years in 1988, 1989 and 1990. Nebbiolo has a lot of tannins, which may be off-putting, but the fruit and flower characteristics and secondary aromas are complex. Modern cellar technology has modified these wines. The everyday wines of the region, barbera and dolcetto, with reduced yields, become dark and handsome.

Taking the mould out of Moldova
Article Abstract:
Moldova used to produce 580 million bottles of wine and 13 million bottles of brandy for export to the former Soviet Union until the 1980's. In 1993 its wine industry is antiquated, its wine old-fashioned and equipment scarce. Its moderate continental climate is suited to grape growing. Dutch businessman Joop van de Kant brought in French winemakers Ms. Lurton to improve the hygiene, ageing and storage of wines.
