The wrong kind of bird
Article Abstract:
It is difficult to know why the low-budget film 'Kes,' which was very slow to take off when it was released, has gained such enduring appeal, according to producer Tony Garnett. However, he feels that much of the film's enduring appeal can attributed to Barry Hines, who wrote the novel on which the film is based. He believes that Hines writes in a very visual way, providing strong images to be presented on film. The film is very visually appealing, but Garnett recalls that the original intention had been to make it in black and white.

Endgame
Article Abstract:
Young Polish film directors tend not to pay much attention to older directors, according to film-maker Andrzej Wajda. His films record many significant events in Polish history, but he no longer regards himself as a political film-maker. Audiences are not interested in political subjects any more, and the main emphasis of films is now on youth and entertainment. His latest film, 'Miss Nobody,' shows an adolescent girl from the countryside who moves with her family to Warsaw.

He has been involved in a wide range of film genres, including Will Hay comedies, classic science fiction, detective films and musicals. Many of his films have documentary-style realism, but there are some notable exceptions, including 'Casino Royale.'
