The long goodbye
Article Abstract:
It should be possible to make a comeback, according to former radio and television presenter Simon Dee, who was very popular in the 1960s but whose career came to an abrupt halt in 1970 following a clash with London Weekend Television. He still finds it hard to come to terms with the fact that he has now spent many years living in obscurity after once mixing with many famous people. He now has no income at all, but feels that this has helped him to focus on friendships.

Article Abstract:
ITV will broadcast 'News at Ten' for the last time on Mar 5, 1999. Some observers feel that this development, bringing a 32-year tradition to an end, represents a further decline in cultural standards in the UK. However, newsreader Trevor McDonald, who is closely associated with 'News at Ten,' emphasizes that a great deal of effort has gone into developing ITV's new current affairs programme, 'Tonight,' which will have a high-profile position in the middle of the schedules.
