Plans for a hotel complex and offices as part of the redevelopment of Wembley stadium in London, England, are likely to be abandoned after insufficient interest from City banks. A new scheme is set to be less ambitious.

There is speculation that media mogul Rupert Murdoch is planning to link with former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, who owns media concern Fininvest, to create a superleague of European football clubs. It is likely that Murdoch will use this development to attract more viewers, as he has already done with football and rugby in the UK and baseball in the US. The possibility of some clubs moving into a superleague has become a significant cause for concern among those who manage the UK's Premier League.
