UK: KELDA TO REVEAL STRATEGIC PLAN

Article Abstract:

Kelda is scheduled to reveal plans on 14 June 2000 which would lead to shareholders receiving a GB[pound] 500mn-GB[pound] 1bn payout via the transfer for a mutual business of its core water operations. The parent company of UK-based Yorkshire Water is awaiting clearance for the plan from Ian Byatt, the water industry regulator. Kelda's water assets would be acquired by the mutually owned business, which would subsequently return said assets to shareholders in the form of cash. The move is intended to cut capital costs at Yorkshire Water, which is under pressure from increasing environmental expenditure and new price constraints.
