UK: MOBILE PHONES FOR CHRISTMAS PRESENTS
Article Abstract:
An NOP research poll has found that mobile telephones are likely to be the most popular present this Christmas, as it is likely that 4.7mn will be sold between October and December 2000, as opposed to 4.4mn in the same period of 1999. The market is being driven by cheaper phones with free accessories, "great looking" products, plus peer pressure upon those who do not possess a phone. Also selling well are the accessories to go with the telephone, such as the changeable covers, different ring tones and hands-free kits. However, this means that traditional retailers of items such as books and clothing are under pressure to keep up.

A pain in the ears?
Article Abstract:
Using a mobile phone for long periods of time can increase your risk of developing cancer, according to Roger Coghill, researcher in bio-electric magnetics. He believes that mobile phones are extremely useful, but points out that they are a powerfully radiative device. Mobile phone manufacturers have sought to avoid publicity on this issue, but have acknowledged that there is a danger by filing patents for designs that reduce the amount of radiation to the head.

UK: MOBILE PHONE DANGER DENIED
Article Abstract:
Claims by the Consumers' Association in the UK, that hands-free kits for mobile phones emit higher levels of radiation than just holding the phone, has been counter-attacked by a leading scientist at Bristol University. Dr Alan Preece doubts that the hands-free antenna can increase output by 350% as claimed, otherwise the technology would be more popular among manufacturers. He also criticised thelack o detail in the study.
