Universal Product Code: what it means to hardware-home center distribution

Article Abstract:

The Universal Product Code can be used by the retail trade as a major form of inventory control and as a labor-saving device. Product coding has its disadvantages, too; the computer system needed can be costly, and many manufacturers would need to modify their packaging to comply with standards.
