Watch the birdie - he may be gone next year
Article Abstract:
Data from the British Trust for Ornithology's (BTO) Garden Bird Feeding Survey, which has been carried out in a representative sample of gardens across the UK since 1970, indicates that there have been changes in the frequency with which certain species of birds visit gardens. In some cases, these changes have taken place over a very short period of time. Some birds are visiting gardens less frequently as winter weather has been milder, allowing them to feed in the countryside, while others have become adapted to garden life in winter.

Life on the ledge
Article Abstract:
The Countryside Council for Wales is undertaking a project designed to record the plant and animal-rich habitats of the coast of Wales. This work is costing 250 pounds sterling per km, and is also receiving some European Union funding. Some 60% of the Welsh coast, which totals 1,600 km, will have been covered by the end of the 1990s. The work will be used to identify the impact of coastal developments, and will also provide a valuable insight into the biological value of the Welsh coast.
