Where's the good life?

Article Abstract:

Many Britons yearn to escape city life and live in the countryside. However, city life can actually have many advantages. Facilities such as shops and cafes are generally within easy walking distance, and there can be both a strong sense of community and a welcome anonymity. In contrast, life in the countryside is often not as pleasant as many people imagine. Country dwellers have to deal with regular invasions of wildlife into their home, and may have to commute long distances to work.

Why Ayckbourn will fight on for his theatre

Article Abstract:

Alan Ayckbourn is widely regarded as one of the best living British playwrights. However, this position has not assisted him in his battle to keep open the newly built Stephen Joseph theatre in Scarborough, England. He is firmly committed to Scarborough, where all his plays are premiered, and also to regional theatre in the UK as a whole. The new theatre has been widely acclaimed, but some critics believe that Ayckbourn is obtaining public subsidy for private profit.

Confessions of a pregnant father

Article Abstract:

Men whose partner is pregnant can often feel rather left out. They are generally unaware of many of the medical details of pregnancy and birth, and feel unable to discuss many issues with other men. The only way in which they really participate in preparing for the arrival of their child is in preparing the house and supporting their partner. Some welcome classes such as those organised by the National Childbirth Trust, while others find them too threatening.
