Why EU makes Bordeaux see pink
Article Abstract:
There is now increasingly strong opposition to the European Union in the Aquitaine region of France, especially from farmers, who fear that they will face competition from cheap imported produce. In Bordeaux, the capital of the region, there have been mass demonstrations against public service spending cuts, which ordinary people see as being prompted by the government's need to meet the convergence criteria for monetary union. Many people resent interference by the European Union, and fear that they will lose their identity.

People's will turns against EU ideals
Article Abstract:
There is dwindling public confidence in the European Union across Europe, with only half of European citizens now believe that their country has derived advantages from being a member of the European Union. This problem is likely to be made worse by the forthcoming Inter-Governmental Conference (IGC), which will produce confusing messages about European integration and the relevance of the European Union.

Pride and prejudice at heart of German dilemma
Article Abstract:
Many citizens of Bavaria, Germany, have negative views about the European Union. They feel that German membership of the European Union has had a particularly negative impact on Bavaria, and do not believe that the European Union can do anything to help ordinary people. This attitude goes against the traditional German commitment to political and economic union with the rest of Europe.
