Why not ban all advertising?

Article Abstract:

The UK government's decision to ban tobacco advertising on billboards and in newspapers and magazines from the end of 1999 can be seen as having wider implications. If tobacco advertising is morally unsustainable, then this is also the case with other products, such as alcohol, motor vehicles and sugary drink and foods. It could even be argued that, from a moral point of view, all advertising aimed at children should be banned. The media is regularly compromised by the fact that advertisers spend vast sums of money, and it could therefore be argued that advertising in itself poses a threat to freedom of expression.

Scotland's going to pot

Article Abstract:

There has been a spate of unorthodox statements on cannabis use from a wide range of interested professionals in Scotland. The British Medical Association Scottish committee members have become the first medical professionals to make an official call for the legalization of cannabis for recreational use. The legalization of cannabis has also been supported by Lothian and Borders Deputy Chief Constable Tom Wood. In the long term, fiscal considerations will most directly determine whether cannabis is legalized.
