Article Abstract:

The French government is financing a demonstration of high-definition television (HDTV) with coverage of the 1992 Winter Olympic Games at Albertville. HDTV uses a much wider screen than existing televisions and the images are clearer, which is particularly suitable for transmitting sport and films. An EC HDTV project is proposed using existing analogue technology. The United States is experimenting with the new digital technology which, unlike the European system, does not need satellite transmission.

Article Abstract:

There are likely to be 12 million users of mobile phones by the end of the 1990s, with usage being boosted by the development of more flexible digital technology. More widespread use is likely to push down call prices, with call quality and in-building reception improving. Many observers believe that mobile phones will eventually be used as a first phone, allowing people to communicate at all times of the day and night.

There are reports of significant problems associated with installing Microsoft's Windows 98 on top of Windows 95. This has prompted computer manufacturers to issue advice on the Web about how to avoid problems. Some observers feel that there are no compelling reasons to upgrade to Windows 98. An upgrade should only be undertaken if you need a feature in Windows 98 and if your vendor is making support available.
