Fear of blood: the risk of infection spurs a search for safer transfusions

Article Abstract:

The fear of blood transfusions, which has come about primarily because of the risk of AIDS, has led to greater use of autologous blood donations, blood recycling and biotechnological efforts to develop a blood substitute. These efforts are discussed.
