Innovative channel bridges debut in US

Article Abstract:

The innovative Channel Bridge design introduced in the US is patented by J. Muller International and licensed to Bridge Technologies. It has been applied to a bridge replacement project in New York. Using the new design, underclearance in bridges are increased by 2.5 to 3 ft without raising the bridge deck. The Channel Bridge's deck is made out off precast segmental concrete attached to posttensioning. This deck serves two purposes, safety and main load-bearing structures. The design can be a solution to underclearance problems being experienced when large trucks pass through tunnels.

NYSDOT races to fix damaged bridge

Article Abstract:

The New York State Dept of Transportation authorized a $15 million reconstruction of the approaches to the Goose Creek Bridge. The bridge, which was closed since 1989 following the discovery of scour damage is expected to be completed by May 1999. Prefabricated materials were used to ensure uninterrupted bridge repair. Thirty feet approaches, supported by 54-in. diameter, 160-ft. long piles will take the place of the old structure. Moreover, the contractors will install a 24-in. diameter, 112-ft. long steel pipe piles to reinforce the existing abutments.
