Now you CE it...
Article Abstract:
Under the European PPE directive 89/686/EEC, which will take effect on July 1 1992, all personal protective equipment (PPE) will have to be CE marked. It is, however, improbable that there will be any CE marked items in Europe by July. In the UK, products will not be able to be CE marked or tested until approved testers have been appointed. This requires UK legislation, but so far draft regulations for incorporation into UK legislation have not been given approval by the DTI. Six months grace has therefore been given before the EEC ruling has to be adhered to. There is some confusion over the CE mark.

Article Abstract:
The Surface Engineering Assn (SEA) will launch a Code of Practice for chromium platers on Nov 12, 1998, which is a commitment to applying the latest rules on the use of hexavalent chromium in the industry. Although automotive specifiers and European lawmakers insist that an excess of chromium in the body could cause cancer, SEA claims that chromium, when used for coating, cannot harm neither the user nor the environment upon dispersal. Chromium as Cr(supra +6) has other benefits, including ready availability and the ability to extend the useful life of components.

Article Abstract:
