Study of the OH-initiated degradation of the aromatic photooxidation product 3,4-dihydroxy-3-hexene-2,5-dione

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to investigate the kinetics and products of the reaction between OH radicals and the enediol form of acetylformoin,3,4-dihydroxy-3-hexene-2,5-dione inside a 1080-L reaction chamber. Kinetics of the reaction was recorded at roughly 296 in 1000 mbar of synthetic air. The reaction produced four major products: hydrated vicinal polyketone, 3,3-dihydroxyhexane-2,4,5-trione, pyruvic acid and CO and small amouts of polyketones.

Kinetic and mechanistic study of the atmospheric chemistry of muconaldehydes

Article Abstract:

The gas-phase atmospheric chemistry of muconaldehydes is examined in terms of their high toxicity and their intermediate occurence in aromatic oxidation. OH radical and photolysis reaction represents the major atmospheric sinks for hexadienedials. High reactivity poses problems in establishing hexadienedials as primary oxidation products of alkylated aromatics.
