Acculturation and the prevalence of depression in older Mexican Americans: baseline results of the Sacramento Area Latino Study on Aging
Article Abstract:
Research on incidence of mental depression in Sacramento, California's Mexican American aged found that the general prevalence of depression in the population was 25.4%. Men were significantly less likely than women to experience depression, at 16.3% to 32% respectively. Respondents who were least acculturated showed a higher risk of depression than those who were more acculturated.

Aging versus disease: the opinions of older black, Hispanic, and non-Hispanic white Americans about the causes and treatment of common medical conditions
Article Abstract:
Research on the attitudes of non-institutionalized older men and women toward the causes and treatment of common diseases is discussed. Results indicate that many older people are fatalistic about the cause and treatment of disease and that such beliefs may be linked to a decreased use of preventive medical services.

High prevalence of Chlamydia Pneumoniae antibodies and increased high-sensitive C-reactive protein in patients with vascular dementia
Article Abstract:
A study conducted on patients with vascular dementia and Alzheimer's disease to determine the effects of Chlamydia Pneumoniae infection, carotid atherosclerosis and dyslipidemia on the two conditions is presented. It is concluded that these infections and conditions may be risk factors for vascular dementia.
