Elder abuse among Asian Indians: traditional versus modern perspectives
Article Abstract:
Urbanization and migration have created changes in family values in Asian Indian society. Old age, long held as a venerable trait in Indian society, has given way to emphasis on individualism, departure from tradition, and self-interests. Indian elders regard such new trends as disrespectful and abusive. Cases of psychological abuse and financial neglect among women and elders in India are influenced by social and cultural factors.

Perceptions of elder abuse and neglect and help-seeking patterns among Filipino and Korean elderly women in Honolulu
Article Abstract:
Filipino elders in the US were found to be less tolerant of abuse than Korean immigrants living in Minnesota. The responses of Filipinos more closely resembled feedback from Caucasians or African-American groups. Cultural and historical differences can account for this divergence. Filipinos in Hawaii have been able to adapt to US customs due to factors such as higher income, language fluency, and better educational backgrounds.
