Assuring quality in nursing home care
Article Abstract:
Quality in nursing home care may be assured by depending on a two-tiered approach. Nursing homes could use a continuous quality improvement (CQI) process to improve care within the facility. Those that could not implement such a process would be subject to greater regulatory oversight. Regulation of nursing homes was strengthened by the 1987 Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act following revelations of widespread abuses in the nursing home industry.
