The pituitary-adrenal glucocorticoid response is altered by gender and disease
Article Abstract:
The roles of age, gender and disease in the regulation of the pituitary-adrenal axis were studied by measuring serum cortisol and immunoreactive coticotropin for five hours after administration of ovine corticotropin releasing hormone (oCRH). Results showed that the pituitary-adrenal response to oCRH in older people was gender specific and chronic diseases such as diabetes mellitus and hypertensionaltered the adrenal glucocorticoid response regulation.
