Cognitive correlates of mortality: evidence from a population-based sample of very old adults
Article Abstract:
Links between cognitive performance and mortality have been studied giving rise to questions such as whether poor health explains both the impaired cognitive functioning and the mortality. Category fluency and word recognition were found to be effective as predictors of subsequent mortality. The surviving group tended to perform better on nearly all tasks but only some of these tasks were linked to mortality. Some deficits such as those affecting recognition may be linked to conditions such as impending mortality which are separate from normal aging.

Termonal decline and cognitive performance in very old age: does cause of death matter?
Article Abstract:
Cross-sectional differences and longitudinal changes in cognitive functioning in relation to mortality across a 7-year follow-up period, with 3 times of measurement were examined in a population-based sample of very old adults. The results indicated cross-sectional difference on all domains of functioning, with persons who would die within 3 years after baseline testing performance.

Apolipoprotien E and cognitive performance: A meta-analysis
Article Abstract:
A study is conducted with reference to the meta-analysis of the literature on apolipoprotien E (APOE)-epsilon4 genotype and cognitive functioning. The results reveal that APOE- apsilon4 genotype does not affect cognitive performance in healthy aging, although the influence is relatively small and specific to certain domains of cognitive performance.
