Current status and future directions of Geriatric general surgery
Article Abstract:
The current status of general surgery in older patients with a special focus on emergency procedures, major abdominal surgery, biliary disease, endocrine disease, and breast cancer are described. The basic principles like meticulous assessment and preparation of the patient, delicate and efficient surgery, compassionate p re operative care is same for all problems.

Appropriateness of quality indicators for older patients with advanced dementia and poor prognosis
Article Abstract:
The applicability of process-of-care quality indicators to vulnerable elders is evaluated and the effect of excluding indicators is measured based on patients' preferences. However caution is required for the application of these quality indicators to vulnerable elders.

Higher vulnerable elders survey scores predict death and functional decline in vulnerable older people
Article Abstract:
A study examining whether the vulnerable elders survey, which is a 13 item health related questionnaire for elderly persons, is useful for predicting mortality and functional decline in these persons, is presented.
