Equilibrium and limb coordination in mild cognitive impairment and mild Alzheimer's disease
Article Abstract:
Poorer equilibrium and limb coordination may distinguish mild forms of cognitive impairment or mild Alzheimer's disease. Researchers used various tests to measure the risk of falling in 365 older people, including single leg stance, tandem walking, the dynamics of foot tapping, and body positions. The absence of cognitive disorders was associated with better physiological coordination and balance, independent of age.

On the number of automated timed manual performance trials to administer
Article Abstract:
Research indicates that two trials of the automated timed manual performance test are sufficient in assessing function in older patients. Studies based on three trials of five timed door opening and closing performances showed that the crucial time measurement occurred between trials one and two, but was negligible between trials two and three.

Neuropsychological and genetic differences between age-associated memory impairment and mild cognitive impairment entities
Article Abstract:
A Spanish study comparing age-associated memory impairment (AAMI) criteria and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) criteria shows that AAMI typically results in a selection of a segment of the population that is genetically different from the general population of older adults. Implications for future studies are discussed.
